FIFA, the world governing body for football, has selected Barbados as the launching pad for two important projects in the coming months which would raise the profile of the game on the island.
The announcement was made yesterday evening at a press conference at the Barbados Football Association (BFA) headquarters, by president Randy Harris and Kenny Jean-Marie, FIFA’s chief member associations officer for the region.
One of the projects is the Talent Development Scheme first implemented by Arsene Wenger, FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development and former manager of English Premier League club Arsenal from 1996 to 2018.
Barbados is the only country selected from the Caribbean which will be involved in the pilot programme which starts in January. The five-year programme will involve players and coaches, and will have an emphasis on schools, communities and clubs.
The scheme will assist member associations (MAs) and their players to achieve their full potential and close the disparity in the level of football between different regions of the world. (NM)
