Stressing that she could not make a diagnosis of sepsis from a blood test, a doctor admitted that the dramatic reduction in Warren Mottley’s white blood cell count could have occurred because of the infection.
Dr Courtenay Chase further told the Coroner’s Inquest she was not aware that Mottley had died from sepsis.
However, she conceded that only one doctor had performed surgery on Mottley before he was diagnosed with the infection.
“Are you aware that faeces were inside his peritoneal cavity?” asked Sir Elliott Mottley QC.
“I wasn’t aware of the findings specifically when he got to SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit). After my time with him I can’t attest for what happened afterwards,” Chase said. (HLE)
