Court throws out appeal

Three drug accused who had challenged their arrests off the coast of Barbados by Coast Guard and Marine Police failed in their bid to have their matters discontinued after the Court of Appeal threw out their appeal yesterday.

The Court of Appeal later remitted the matter to the Magistrates’ Court and ordered the continuation of the preliminary inquiry “we hope as a matter of urgency”.

Renald Oneal Price, a 38-year-old fisherman of Breedy’s Land, Silver Sands, Christ Church; Rico Dario Sandiford, 29, of Meadow Road, Wildey, St Michael, and Ryan Manoo Mohammed, a 39-year-old joiner of South Ordpouche Parlap Trace, Trinidad, were accused that being within the limits of the Exclusive Economic Zone established by the Marine Boundaries and Jurisdiction Act, they had cannabis in their possession, a traffickable quantity of the drug and that they had the drug with intent to supply on October 22, 2020.

They are also accused of three counts of possession of a firearm, as well as possession of 13 rounds of ammunition. Their matters were being heard in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court. (HLE)
