Quon wins calypso crown

Quon is the new calypso monarch of Barbados.

He was the clear winner of the Courtesy Pic-O-De-Crop Competition at Kensington Oval with 107 points, impressing the judges with Animal Kingdom.

The CO Williams House of Soca artiste is a former two-time junior calypso monarch, one of five in the field. The winning prize is a Nissan Leaf valued at $92 000.

It was a very close battle for the next three positions, all from the First Citizens/Digicel De Big Show Calypso tent, with only two points separating second and fourth.

iWeb, himself a three-time calypso monarch, scored 92 points with Dear Lord, Chrystal Cummins-Beckles went Crazy and finished with 91, while the Kaiso Reporter, TC, got 90.

Only four positions were announced on the night. (SAT)
