Elite Distance has gone the extra mile. The future continues to look bright for CARIFTA gold medallists Jonathan Jones and Rasheem Griffith after their top track and field club extended its sponsorship deal with Co-operators General Insurance.
Human resources and marketing manager of the company, Cheryl Forde, made a presentation to the Elite Distance Programme and fellow sporting club St Catherine’s Barracudas at the recent media launch of the Co-operators General Insurance Basketball Premier League.
It comes as a much welcomed measure of assistance for one of Barbados’ best clubs, which serves as the training base for notable athletes like Olympic qualifier Sada Williams, former CARIFTA gold medallist Anthonio Mascoll, national junior discus record holder Triston Gibbons and Run Barbados 10K podium finisher Joshua Hunte.
The sponsorship has paid major dividends forSt Catherine too, as the perennial title contenders have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Barbados Cricket Supplies Under-13 Tournament again.
The Barracudas are set to play host to Franklyn Stephenson Academy Juniors today after talented all-rounder Daniel Joseph fell just three runs shy of a century in St Catherine’s massive 192-run victory over Cric-Mechanics.
David Callender added 64 as St Catherine posted 302 for five off 35 overs before Callender returned to take three wickets for eight runs in restricting the opposition to 110 for nine. (JM)
