A compulsory National Youth Service is included in the National Youth Policy for Barbados.
Minister of Youth Stephen Lashley reminded of this at the ground-breaking for the new Barbados Youth Service home at Paragon, Christ Church, yesterday morning.
While Lashley believes the Youth Service can be “critical” in helping with the problems facing the youth, he said neither the Youth Service nor any of the existing programmes were replacements for the important inputs of home and community.
The project will be rolled out in two phases, the first of which should be completed by the end of June. Phase one will cost $771 000 and will include the construction of the administrative and medical blocks (YB)
