The Barbados Pride players were showered with praise at a special ceremony at Kensington Oval by the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) and sponsors ICBL to salute their performances in the Professional Cricket League’s (PCL) Four-Day and One-Day cricket competitions.
In the four-day competition the Pride finished second behind Guyana Jaguars who won their fourth consecutive title while they were losing finalists in the West Indies Super50 Festival, to Windward Islands Volcanoes in Antigua on Saturday.
The performance of the team was described as creditable, given that they lost nine players to international duty and two others to injury.
During the reception, which was attended by ICBL’s chief executive officer Geoffrey Scott, the BCA received accumulated funding from the lotteries through CAGE Barbados Limited which was sure to bring even more smiles to the BCA and the cricketers.
Manager Wendell Coppin thanked everyone who contributed to the team during the two competitions and lauded the BCA for its part in the team’s performance.
“I think that as a board and an office, we realised that with hard work, dedication and support for the utmost development of these young men, that we can turn, certainly, West Indies’ cricket around and ensure that the future of Barbados’ cricket is in good hands,” he said.
Coppin implored the BCA to continue to ensure the players’ continued development by having the best people around to guide them.
“The best people involve those who work on the mental, physical and the psychological side of our players because I believe there were many times where it had nothing to do with batting or bowling but it had more to do with our social and life skills, which ensured that we either won or lost games,” he said.
