Noted attorney, Pan-Africanist Robert “Bobby” Clarke has died.

Clarke, 90, passed away yesterday after being hospitalised.

During this year’s Emancipation Day celebrations, Clarke was honoured for his work with developing the Pan-Africanist movement in the 1970s, of which he was a founding member, and playing a pivotal part in the labour movement.

Clarke, who ran in politics, was the first person to develop the Cuban academic scholarships for people of the Caribbean and up until his death, remained honorary president of the Cuban/Barbadian Friends Association.

In confirming his death, General Secretary of the Caribbean Movement for Peace, David Denny, described Clarke as devoted to his causes, some of which he took up in the 1970s. (AC)
