Reigning champions Carlton and A1 Braves will be out to defend their Premier League title when the Barbados National Dominoes Association’s season slams off Saturday at various venues around the island from 5 p.m.
While there has been movement of players with the formation of new Division 2 side Peace and Love, the Braves kept most of their players from last year.
Their main rivals R.L. Seale QEH, despite losing some of their members, should still be a force with experienced players such as former national association presidents Cedric Alleyne and Dr Wayne Welch still slamming.
Stiff opposition should also come from Mount Gay KC Joint, who were second last year and Vauxhall, in spite of losing their captain Shurland Bovell to Peace and Love.
The Division 1 League should be an exciting one with Lucozade/Slam-O-Dom Police, who recently got demoted, looking to get back to the top-flight under new captain Rodney Inniss.
Turton Construction Hindsbury, led by Callum Barnard, should also give a good account of themselves.
BUT Cavaliers, who barely missed out on promotion last year will again be in the reckoning, along with Dream Team and the improving RM Cleaners and Stag Weasels.
A lot of interest will be in Division 2 where Peace and Love have created quite a stir with the return of former public relations officer of the national association, Vincent Burke, and CBC’s Michelle Arthur, who will playing in her first domino competition.
The team will be captained by former QEH captain Anderson Belgrave and will have Bovell as his deputy.
Also playing in the same division will be the Halls Village-based team Legacy, as well as Newbury, who were on the brink of promotion for the last two years.
Another team to note is Checker Hall, who dropped from Premier League to Division 2 in the space of two years.
The St Lucy side are expected to be the team to watch, along with Peace and Love with their numerous experienced players.
Meanwhile, the Three-hand League is due to start on March 1 at various venues. (PR/EZS)
