Set B turned in an A-class performance to successfully defend their crown when Coleridge & Parry staged their house sports at the National Stadium yesterday.
They finished with 768 points, well clear of Set C on 620. Set F placed third with 576 points, E fourth (523), A fifth (507) and D sixth (398).
The repeat champions were set up by victrix ludorum Tamia Battershield, who finished with 79 points.
She won the triple crown in the sprints, taking the 100 metres in 12.89 seconds, the 200 in 25.93 and the 400 metres in one minute, 0.62 seconds.
Kamari Slocombe contributed to Set A’s bragging rights with the sprint double in the Under-13s boys’ division. He crossed the line in the 100 metres in 13.63 seconds and clocked 28.46 in the 200 metres.
Set E’s Tyreke Hunte stole the show by upsetting the field in the Under-20 boys’ 100 metres. Holding off the challenges of Tafari Bishop and Jermaine Hall in a driving photo finish, he clocked 11.44 seconds. Bishop, better known for middle distance running, finished in 11.46 and Hall in 11.53.
Bishop, in line for a place on the Carifta team, got revenge by winning the 200 metres (22.46 seconds) and the 400 metres (50.47). He had already taken care of business in the 800 metres and 1 500 metres, which were done at the school grounds. Bishop was victor ludorum with 65 points.
Eboni Browne of Set F looked a good sprinting prospect as she dominated the Under-15 girls’ 100 and 200 metres. She hammered the field in the former in 13.39 seconds and in the latter in 27.52.
Jaydee Lowe of Set E was unbeatable in the Under-17 boys’ track events, with runaway victories in the 100 metres (12.00 seconds), 200 metres (24 .54) and 400 metres (55.52). (AT)
