Woman facing firearm, ammunition charges

Police have arrested and charged 47-year-old Hazel Donna Greenidge of Block 11B, Bottoms Close, Pine, St Michael, for the offences of possession of a firearm without a valid license, and possession of ammunition without a valid permit. 

These offences were committed on Sunday, February18, whilst at Akademiks Sports Bar, Regent Hill, Pinelands, St Michael.

Police conducted an operation at the bar, where a promotional birthday fete was being hosted. During the operation, a warrant to search the bar was executed and Greenidge was observed concealing a bag on the exterior of the bar. The bag was retrieved and searched, and one firearm and seven rounds of ammunition were discovered in the bag.

During the operation police also seized:

• Two firearms, including an assault rifle, and 27 rounds of ammunition, and one magazine containing 7 rounds of ammunition which were discovered on the exterior of the building.

• Two firearms, and 20 rounds of ammunition which were found on-board the minibus B142 which was parked along Regent Hill.

• One firearm, and 11 rounds of ammunition, which were found on-board the minibus B44 which was also parked along Regent Hill.

• One firearm and 13 rounds of ammunition which were found on the outside of the minibus B142.

• A total of 17 marijuana plants ranging from seedlings to two feet tall were also discovered being cultivated in the environs of the bar.

No arrests were made in relation to the firearms or the drugs found. A total of seven firearms, and 85 rounds of ammunition of various calibres were seized. 

Greenidge appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sergeant in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court on Wednesday, February 21, in relation to the offences she was charged. 

She was not required to plead to the indictable offences and was remanded to prison to reappear in Court on March 21. (PR)
