One of the relatives of Barbados’ latest shooting victim says some people are becoming immune to the gun violence in certain communities.
The woman, who declined to be named, was speaking at Morris Gap, Westbury Road, St Michael, where Jabari Danko Yarde, 33, of 1st Avenue Pioneer Road, Bush Hall, died on the scene after reportedly received gunshot wounds to his neck on Saturday morning.
“The gun violence in society is so prevalent, I think people now getting immune to it in a sense because every day, sometimes you get two and three killings in a week, sometimes twice a day. I don’t know what to tell you, but it needs to stop,” she said.
“The young gentlemen, especially the black men, got to realise that we is the only race that killing out one another. You ain’t seeing the Whites nor the Indians killing out one another. We need to learn to educate we li’l young men and become entrepreneurs, and teach them about making money and business, not the drug trade because you know a lot of things going on with that drug trade too.”
It was the third shooting in Morris Gap in recent months and takes the number of murders for the year to 41. (Nation News)
