The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, bid farewell to Barbados on Wednesday, following an official visit that included attendance at the Eighth CARICOM-Cuba Summit.
He was accorded a military salute this morning at the Grantley Adams International Airport that consisted of detachments from the Barbados Coast Guard and the Band of the Barbados Police Service.
Bidding him farewell were Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Senior Minister coordinating the Productive Sectors, Kerrie Symmonds; Chaperone Minister for the President of Cuba; Davidson Ishmael; Ambassador of Barbados to Cuba, Phillip St Hill; Ambassador of Cuba to Barbados, Sergio Pastrana; Commissioner of Police Richard Boyce, Lt Colonel Carlos Lovell of the Barbados Defence Force and Chief of Protocol Resa Layne, among others.
Prior to his departure, the Cuban leader attended a ceremony to mark the inauguration of a colloquium on 50 years of CARICOM-Cuba relations.
During this week’s conference, CARICOM Heads and Cuba agreed that the Ninth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Caribbean Community and the Republic of Cuba would be convened on December 8, 2025, in Cuba, while the Seventh CARICOM-Cuba Ministerial Meeting would take place in a CARICOM Member State, in 2023.
