It was very windy at times, and the early morning sun was sweltering, but warm smiles still creased many of the faces of the young and old at Holetown yesterday.
This happened as more than 500 people took over the streets of the St James town as the annual Holetown Festival neared its end.
The festivities began with a street parade just after 11 a.m. where scores of people filled the sidewalks to witness the revelry and jubilation.
Some used umbrellas or lurked under the nearest trees, while others braved the sun to get the best view of the action.
One of the organisers of the street parade, Fiona Griffith, said there were about 27 groups represented this year.
She said there was increased interest in the parade and explained that some groups were unable to attend due to illness.
But those who took part included the Sunshine Dancers, Gentle Steps Academy, St James Parish Ambassadors, primary schools including St Silas, St James and St Alban’s, Bajan In Movement, Haynesville Youth Group And Tuk Band, Dancin Africa and the No. 14 Drum Corps Detachment of the Graydon Sealy Cadet Corps.
Some of the characters depicted were Mother Sally and Captain John Powell.
This is the 41st staging of the week-long event which celebrates the landing of the first English settlers in 1627. (TG)
