IT WAS A JOINT police, military early-morning effort, but despite the eagerness of the team, the mission ended without success.
Twenty members of the Royal Barbados Police Force, supported by 30 Barbados Defence Force soldiers, combed through cotton and canefields in Dash Valley, St George, and its environs in search of a missing man.
They were looking for any clue that would lead to the whereabouts of 20-year-old Daquan “Willy” St Hill, who has been missing since Friday. But, the search party came up empty-handed.
From as early as 7 a.m., the security forces contended with the elements for almost three hours in an effort to put Daquan’s mother Sharon Callender’s heart at ease on Valentine’s Day.
A distraught Callender, who fought back tears as she spoke about her son on Tuesday during an interview, said she suspected her son was dead and just wanted his body to be found.
The search party assembled along the roadside by a canefield in Dash Valley around 6:30 a.m. while police officers not involved in the search directed traffic to allow soldiers to disembark vehicles and coordinate the search.
Under the command of Inspectors Elliot Bovell and Winston Goddard, the search-and-find teams dispersed into groups. (SB)
