THE WOMAN who has been synonymous with the Oistins Fish Festival will no longer be playing a pivotal role in the event this year.

Member of Parliament for Christ Church South Ralph Thorne revealed yesterday that Stella Lady St John would no longer be in the forefront of the festival she conceptualised in 1977 to celebrate the town and its history.

“Stella Lady St John has not disappeared from us, but she is in a consultancy capacity. And Mr Herbie Yearwood is also still on board but there are new and younger, fresher minds and bodies managing the festival,” he said yesterday.

Thorne said when the festival was in its heyday, crowds thronged the streets from end to end of Oistins. “We want to return the festival to its glory days,” he added.

The festival is slated for the Easter weekend of April 19 ( Good Friday) to 22 ( Easter Monday). (HLE)
