Barbados’ captain Kanye Wharton struck the all-important equaliser but, in the end, the local boys suffered a 2-1 defeat to Brazil yesterday in their fourth and final game of the 2023 Junior Pan American Hockey Championships.

Played at the National Hockey Centre in Wildey, the Bajan men, comprising mostly Under-21 players, ended the competition in seventh overall after being beaten by the Brazilians who will now play Guyana for either fifth or sixth position tomorrow.

“It was an entertaining match for us today [yesterday] but a lack of communication cost us the match. But we will use this tournament as a lesson to build and go forward for the 2024 tournament in Canada,” Wharton told Sun Sport.

Coached by Anthony Trotman, team Barbados, dressed in yellow and black, conceded against the Brazilians in the 11th minute of the first quarter. (ML)
