Chief Education Officer, Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw, is calling on parents to support the Barbados School Nutrition Policy because the Ministry of Education can only control what happens in the schools.

She was speaking as they launched the policy before thousands of educators at the Gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex yesterday. There is also a physical component.

“What we are doing here is controlling the school food environment. We want the children to understand the importance of eating and drinking healthily, and of exercise. We are teaching them from young because the habits they learn from young transcend into adulthood so we want parents to help us,” Archer-Bradshaw said.

“When your children come home, make sure they eat healthily too. And to support them, you can do the same, we are all in this together.”

The policy has earned the support of the Barbados Union of Teachers and the Association of Public Primary School Principals. (Nation News)
