Students and teachers made a full return to the Lawrence T. Gay Memorial Primary School at Spooners Hill, St Michael, yesterday morning.

Chief Education Officer, Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw, said over the past six months, the Ministry of Education, in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and other partners, conducted extensive tests and cleaned the compound to eliminate the source of an odour, of which both students and teachers complained.

Based on the results, which included air quality tests, it was determined the venue was fit for all to return, but the situation would be closely monitored.

“There is no telling when a type of odour could be detected by staff members and or students. What we as a ministry will do is . . . continue to monitor the situation and if there is any incidence of the odour being detected on the compound again, we will make contact with our air quality specialist to determine the link or the correlation between the odour detected and what actually exists in the atmosphere,” Archer-Bradshaw said.

Under a previous arrangement, while some students were accommodated at the Spooners Hill location, those in Classes 2 and 3 were schooled at The Church of Christ The King in Rock Dundo, St Michael. Class 4 students were at Sharon Moravian Church Hall, St Thomas, and Reception at Grace Hill Moravian Church on Spooners Hill. (Nation News)
