Ialpha Nedd, Mya Rowe and Danica Gittens spurred Purple House to the title at the St George Inter-House Athletic Championships at the National Stadium yesterday.
The three contributed at total of 202 points as Purple collected 1 091 points to hold off Blue, who had 1049.50 points, after a ding-dong battle throughout the day.
Red finished third with 865 and former champions Green placed a disappointing fourth with 817.50 points.
Nedd gained 75 points from wins in the Under-17 Boys’ 400 metres (53.18 seconds), 800 metres (two minutes 19.17 seconds), javelin throw (34.78 metres,) shot put (10.29 metres )and high jump (1.70 metres.)
He was second in the 1 500 metres (5:47.20 minutes) and the long jump (5.13 metres) and took bronze in the discus with a throw of 24.90 metres.
Rowe dominated the distance races to win the 400 metres in 66.93 seconds, the 1 500 metres in 6 minutes, 49.78 seconds, and the 3 000 in 14 minutes, 39.00 seconds. She also won the high jump with a clearance of 1.25 metres and was second in the 200 metres (28.92 seconds) and 800 metres (3 minutes, 11.13 seconds).
Gittens was a crowd favourite and totalled 63 points after winning the Under-15 Girls’ long jump with a leap of 4.14 metres, the 100 metres (13.00 seconds), 200 metres (27.04 seconds), 400 metres (64.77 seconds) and 800 metres (3 minutes, 03.00 seconds).
Blue claimed the victrix ludorum title through Shanice Defreitas and Red the victor ludorum honour via Jamarco Gill.
Defreitas led the Blue House effort with her 77 points. She won the Under-20 Girls’ 400 metres (70.28 seconds), 800 metres (3:18.33 seconds), 1 500 metres (8 minutes, 19.14 seconds) and tied for first with teammate Dana Haynes and Green’s Chriska Padmore after leaping 1.20 metres in the high jump. Haynes, took silver in the 400 (71.27 seconds) and 1 500 metres (8:19.14 minutes).
She placed third in the 100 metres (14.46 seconds) and the long jump with a leap of 3.62 metres.
Gill dominated the Under-15 Boys’ division to come away with eight individual gold medals.
He won the 100 metres (11.96 seconds), 200 metres (25.42 seconds), 400 (58.43 seconds), 800 (2:34.84) and the 1 500 metres (5:35.38).
Gill also won the shot put with a put of 8.60 metres, the long jump with a jump of 5.34 metres and the high jump with a clearance at 1.55 metres.
