Letitbeme, patiently ridden by jockey Rickey Walcott, collared the early pace setter Major Dan in the final half-furlong to spectacularly capture the 73rd running of the Barbados Guineas Grade 1 over 1 570 metres at the historic Garrison Savannah on Saturday.

Before a large crowd the Mr Brain-owned filly, Letitbeme by Alma D’oro out of Set Sail which is trained by Naz Issa seized the first jewel of the Barbados triple crown which was worth $69 000 in a breathtaking homestretch battle.

Major Dan went to the lead and was tracked by Big Chiefa and Letitbeme with the even money favourite Indelible easy on the rails.

Along the backstretch Order of St George crept along the rails to move on the heels of the leaders Major Dan and Letitbeme which was on a tight hold from Big Cheifa, Binary Code and Indelible. (LY)
