Barbados’ women’s hockey team advanced to the semi-finals at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games after earning a hard-fought 2-2 draw against hosts Dominican Republic yesterday at Estadio Del Parque El Este, Santo Domingo.

Nakira Downes opened the scoring for the Bajans in the first quarter and salvaged a draw for her side after goals from Cecilia Oflaherti and Augustina Birocho gave the home side a 2-1 lead.

The Bajans held their nerve under pressure in the closing minutes of the match as their opponents failed to score from two penalty corner opportunities.

“I think we played well. We stuck to our game plan and worked together as a team,” Downes said after the match. (NM)
