Retired banker Conde Riley was returned to the post as president of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) by the slimmest of margins when the organisation held its elections at Kensington Oval last night.
In one of the most eagerly anticipated elections in the recent history of the BCA, the incumbent Riley won by three votes (75) against his challengers Calvin Hope (72) who remains as vice-president and Senator Gregory Nicholls (37) who maintained his position as secretary, unopposed. There were two spoilt votes.
Last week, there had been speculation that the BCA’s treasurer, Jason King, was also seeking nomination for the top post in local cricket, but that did not materialise when the 21st special meeting of members was convened.
Ballots began casting at 6:18 p.m. and by 7:10 when Carlyle Carter, chairman of the elections committee, announced the result, it brought a sparkling of applause from the membership on the second floor of the 3Ws Stand, while some were surprised the turnout was not greater. Â (BA)
