Still no money

No money, no votes! That is what residents of Chapman Lane and Emmerton Lane in The City, who were affected by the Bridgetown Sewage Treatment Plant for many years, are telling the Government after not receiving compensation from the Barbados Water Authority (BWA).

The group of angry residents gathered outside the Supreme Court on Whitepark Road, St Michael, yesterday morning, fuming after the class action lawsuit they have had against the BWA for the past 13 years, was adjourned for the umpteenth time.

They had turned up in their numbers expecting to finally receive a monetary settlement. They were now fearful that the authority might delay on the payout because it was now focused on fixing the South Coast sewage problem.

The City residents, some of whom were relocated to Barbarees Hill, St Michael, by Government ten years ago, are demanding the compensation. They are also threatening not to vote in the upcoming general election if the money is not forthcoming. (MB)
