Trainer Andrew Nunes gave himself the perfect birthday gift with a treble, inclusive of winning two of the three feature races on the Thursday day-night John B. Simpson and Barbados Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Raceday with Renaisance Frolic and Undisputed at the Garrison Savannah.

Also landing a treble before a good crowd on the Independence Day programme was jockey Rickey Walcott, the rider of Undisputed. Ironically, it was that performance that won Walcott the prize for ride of the day adjudicated by former jockey Brett Callaghan.

Walcott’s other wins came through Jerusalema and Binary Code, while Nunes’ third success came via Sovereignty in the tenth and final race.

The $34 000 John B. Simpson Memorial Classic over 1 570 metres produced an entertaining finish with the Sir David Seale-owned Renaisance Frolic, ridden by Rey Williams, outlasting So Suave in the home straight. (LY)
