A St Philip man who shot another so he could take his marijuana and sell to get money for the court, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for serious bodily harm.

Jadiah Malik Marcus Barton was also given a starting sentence of 12 years for using the gun, but will serve a maximum of seven years, 334 days after deductions.

Barton, of Lucas Street, St Philip, was back in the No 5 Supreme Court last week where he had previously pleaded guilty to causing serious bodily harm to Winston Thorne with intent on June 1, 2020.

He had also confessed to using a firearm without a valid licence on the same date. (HLE)
