Don’t tarnish the upcoming election campaign by engaging in unsavoury attacks on individuals. And don’t descend to a level of personal vilification and character assassination.
This caution has come from Archbishop Dr John Holder as he addressed the issue raised by the Sunday Sun as to whether a code of conduct was needed during the General Election which will be called this year.
Holder urged individuals on political platforms to recognise that the public wanted to hear them address the issues of the day and the plans to take the country forward.
“Platforms need to treat Barbadians as wise and intelligent with a passionate love for their country, and so lay the issues before them,” he said, noting that they had the ability to make sensible decisions.
He said, too, that the electorate should see their vote as sacred and insist it was not for trading or for sale, irrespective of the price being offered. (CM)
