Man fined after pleading guilty to drug charges

A man with no fixed place of abode has six months to pay the courts $5 000 after pleading guilty to a number of drug offences.

Thirty-eight-year-old Edwin Dane Victor was arrested and charged in connection with the discovery of 382 cannabis plants at Pot House, St John yesterday.

He appeared before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch in the District “C” Magistrates’ Court and admitted to possession of cannabis, trafficking, possession with intent to supply and cultivation.

If Victor does not pay the fine imposed for the offence of cultivation, he will spend 18 months in prison.

He was given a suspended 18-month prison sentence for the offence of possession.

Victor was reprimanded and discharged for trafficking and convicted, reprimanded and discharged for possession with intent to supply.

His arrest occurred as members of the Drug Squad conducted illegal drug eradication operations in several districts in St John.

A total of 2 619 cannabis plants ranging from seedlings to plants ten feet in height were seized.

In addition to those discovered at Pot House, 1 305 plants were found at Cliff Cottage and 932 at Welch Village. (PR/NB)
