Police are investigating a car-jacking in Morgan Lewis, St Andrew on Wednesday night in which a man was robbed of his Mercedes Benz after stopping to help a passerby who appeared to be in distress.
The vehicle was later found, destroyed by fire.
According to a statement from the Royal Barbados Police Force, the robbery occurred sometime around 8:25 pm, on Wednesday, January 31st.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Brooks was driving his vehicle along Morgan Lewis Road when he observed a man jogging along the said road. The man suddenly fell in the road and Brooks proceeded to stop his motor car to enquire if he was alright. A second man appeared armed with a gun, and both men subsequently robbed Brooks of his car, money, and cellular phone.
The car was later discovered along Morgan Lewis Road, destroyed by fire.
Investigations are continuing into this matter. Anyone who can provide any information to assist with the investigation is being asked to contact the District ‘E’ Police Station at telephone 4191730, or 4191737. Police Emergency number “211”, Crime Stoppers at 1-800 –TIPS (8477), or the nearest police station.
The police statement went on to provide a number of safety tips for motorists, particularly if they are travelling alone, including:
Avoid stopping in secluded areas to provide assistance for persons who may appear in distress, call the police immediately instead.
Never stop to check cars in a lonely or secluded area. Always try to drive to a well-lit and well-travelled area.
Do not get out of your car on a lonely or dark road.
If someone volunteers to assist, do not get out of the car but rather roll the window down one inch, and ask them to call the police.
