The Dems are ready. The party has its full slate of 30 candidates in place for the forthcoming general election with a female executive, a former MP and a business executive among the last three in the mix.

On Thursday night the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) named its remaining three candidates for the general election constitutionally due within the next five months. The final selection took place at the party’s George Street, St Michael headquarters when the executive council, led by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, ratified these candidates.

Repeated efforts to reach the party’s general secretary George Pilgrim for a comment on the matter were unsuccessful. However, well-placed sources told the Saturday Sun that former Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Patrick Todd, who won The City of Bridgetown seat in 2008 and lost it five years later, has switched to St Michael North East where he will be attempting to oust incumbent Mia Mottley, who has held the seat since 1994. Mottley is leader of the Barbados Labour Party, which has already announced its full slate of 30 candidates.

First-timer Kim Tudor, chief executive officer of the Barbados National Initiative for Service Excellence (NISE), will be seeking to end St Michael North Member of Parliament, Ronald Toppin’s 24-year hold. (SDB Media)
