A ST PHILIP MAN who admitted to biting his former girlfriend on her hand after she refused to speak with him, has been told to seek counselling.
That advice was given to Dewayne Covlin Yarde by Magistrate Douglas Frederick when he appeared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
This was after the 32-year-old mechanic, of Block 8E, Church Village, pleaded guilty to unlawfully wounding Lasheena Brathwaite last December 10.
Yarde told the magistrate he got upset with Brathwaite because she would not talk with him.
“It was just a bruise on her finger. She was provoking me by not talking to me,” he said.
That excuse did not sit well with the magistrate.
“You need counselling. She is not provoking you, she is just not talking,” Magistrate Frederick said.
Yarde will have to pay $750 costs in one month or he will spend a month in jail.
The court heard from prosecutor Sergeant Theodore McClean that the two were in a relationship, but it had come to an end because of Yarde’s behaviour.
On the mentioned date, he saw her at the Flash Zone Bar in Black Rock, St Michael, and tried to speak to her in an attempt to rekindle the relationship, but she said she was not interested.
She walked off and he pursued her. As she waved her hands around, Yarde bit her on the right hand and threw liquid on her before fleeing the area.
He eventually turned himself in to police. (RB)
