THE national hockey women’s team are going for gold at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in July in Barranquilla, Colombia.

“It is the gold medal we are going for and it is the gold medal we will bring back and look to prepare for the Pan American Games,” head coach Donovan Smith told NATION SPORT yesterday.

He said the 38-member squad, which includes six overseas players, have been coming along quite well since they began training on December 2 last year.

“To date the ladies are performing well and what is extremely pleasing is that they are willing to learn, improve and work hard, which along with qualities such as self-discipline, intense focus, perseverance and resilience, will see them being successful in their preparations for the upcoming games,” Smith said.

Experienced English-based forward Joanna Davis heads the list of overseas players who includes Lynn Marie Wilson, Nakira Downes, Reiann Stoute, Krystal Mayers and Krysten Mayers. (RG)
