The Accident and Emergency Department (AED) is currently dealing with a surge of patients for treatment and is advising the public to use the Patient Advice and Liaison Service at 536-4800 or via Whatsapp call before visiting the facility.
Doctors will be available via the hotline from 9 a.m. to midnight during the surge to provide medical advice to help determine if members of the public need to visit the department, a release said.
Staff at AED are working to reduce the surge of patients and the wait time, which has increased due to the temporary closure of the 24-hour Winston Scott Polyclinic at Jemmotts, Lane, St Michael. It is expected to reopen on Wednesday.
Patients with life threatening conditions such as gunshot wounds, heart attacks, active seizure activity or are in need of resuscitation, will be seen and treated immediately.
The department reminds individuals who visit the facility during the surge that there will be an extended wait for treatment and regular updates will be provided.
