Commissioner of Police Richard Boyce is confident the Barbados Police Service is fully ready to meet all the security needs of the upcoming T20 Cricket World Cup.

With Barbados scheduled to host nine matches, including the final at Kensington Oval of the June 1 to 29 International Cricket Council event, Boyce also made it clear that this will in no way compromise their ability to meet the day-to-day policing needs of the rest of the country.

In an interview with the Sunday Sun, he said police, along with other security agencies, completed a risk assessment of Barbados for the upcoming period and were satisfied with the results. He added that they would do reassessments on a regular basis.

“In looking at the hosting of the T20 World Cup, the security agencies of Barbados, which comprise the Barbados Police Service, the Barbados Defence Force, Customs and the Immigration Department, are continuing our efforts to work towards ensuring that all aspects of the World Cup are executed in a safe environment. These agencies, along with the other stakeholders, were involved in the planning of this international sporting spectacle,” Boyce said. (CLM)
