Speaking to the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday against the backdrop of last year being dubbed The Year Of Productivity by the Barbados Productivity Council, he said: “NISE [National Initiative for Service Excellence] made a presentation late in 2017 where it basically said that employees in the private sector were less engaged, specifically in the retail and distribution sectors, as compared to their counterparts in the Civil Service.”

Abed added that even though there were several incentive programmes in place to help staff in the private sector achieve their goals, they were clearly not working.

“In the private sector there are . . . productivity bonuses in place. There are many means and programmes that have been initiated by employers to make staff feel more engaged and share in the fruits of their goals. (RA)
