Barbados’ hosting of the International Cricket Council’s Men’s T20 World Cup this month could be threatened by an adverse weather system in the latter stages of the tournament.

This warning comes from deputy director of the Barbados Meteorological Service, Brian Murray, who noted that due to the predicted above average active Atlantic hurricane season, the possibility of Barbados being impacted by a hurricane or storm early into the season is not out of the question.

Moreover, Murray is advising organisers of the tournament to set aside reserve days as the likelihood of matches being impacted by rains are high.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts an above-normal hurricane activity in the Atlantic basin this year. NOAA’s outlook for the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, which spans from June 1 to November 30, predicts an 85 per cent chance of an above-normal season, a ten per cent chance of a near-normal season and a five per cent chance of a below-normal season.
