Too many ‘toxic environments’

An appeal has gone out to fathers to be more involved in the lives of their children, as the absence of a father figure can often leave a void in the lives of young men and women.

The call was made by president of the Men’s Empowerment Network Services, Fabian Sargeant, during a service to mark Father’s Day at St Cyprian’s Anglican Church in Belleville, St Michael, yesterday morning.

So far for the year, there have been 16 homicides, with a number of young men being gunned down in the past two weeks.

Making reference to the “toxic environments” in which some young men are often raised, Sargeant called on fathers to have a greater understanding of their sons as they find their own identity in the world. (JRN/TG)
