Aryanna Bascombe of Providence Elementary School and Finn Graham of St Winifred’s School are the top performers in this year’s Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination (BSSEE)

Both students score 99 in Mathematics, 96 in English, an A in composition with an overall score of 246.81.

Minister of Education, Technological and Vocational Training Kay McConney announced the results this morning during a press conference at the Ministry’s Constitution Road, St Michael headquarters.

She disclosed nine students scored 100 in math compared to 35 last year while none scored 100 in English this year.

McConney expressed concern about the number of students failing math and English. She revealed that  5 students scored 0 in English compared to 4 the previous year.

The Minister said that an average of 22 percent of students scored below 50 per cent in English and 46 percent scored below 50 per cent in Mathematics.
She added that the ministry will continue to analyse the specific areas where the students had challenges and implement improvement plans.
