Cheerful Givers on job

About 100 homeless and underprivileged people got a hearty Christmas Eve breakfast in Queen’s Park yesterday morning, thanks to the Cheerful Givers organisation.

President Marcia Walthrus said this was an increase of 20 over last year’s, adding there were several heart-tugging stories from some of the people who had fallen on hard times.

Walthrus, who said her daughter Tiyamike Kaswaswa sparked the idea to form the charity more than a year ago, stressed the importance of giving back, as well as not judging a person’s circumstances.

“Rather than everyone living selfishly, I would like to see more giving back; even if it is to a neighbour or somebody in your community. All of that counts, especially at this time,” she said.

The organisation has also given back over the year through distribution of school bags and other supplies.

Walthrus said seven members of corporate Barbados willingly stepped forward to assist in the cause. (TG)
