L&N Workshop Inc. is ready to build buses for the Transport Board that it said would save the country foreign exchange and create jobs.

Managing director of the St Thomas business, Norman Edwards, said it already has everything in place to build the smaller “mini” buses.

“If buses are built locally it would generate employment since we would have to almost double our staff complement. Each bus would be retailed at a cost of $240 000 after the chassis are imported.

L&N, formed of ACME, which had gained a good reputation as the manufacturer of “mini buses”, presently employs 50 workers.

Pointing out that L&N previously did major repairs on between 25 and 30 buses yearly and about 100 for minor repairs, Edwards told the Saturday Sun that number had been drastically reduced by his company because his receivables started to climb. (JB)
