After a thrilling tie, St Philip Sharks prevailed over St Lucy Pirates in the Super Over for a consolation first victory in the University of the West Indies/Barbados Cricket Association’s Inter-Parish Twenty20 Tournament at the 3Ws Oval on Thursday night.

Batting first, St Philip made 167 for six off their 20 overs with former Barbados hard-hitting batsman Alcindo Holder smashing nine fours and five sixes in a knock of 88 off 47 balls.

Towards the end, Matthew Jones clouted three sixes and two fours in a quickfire 29 off 11 balls.

In reply, St Lucy, with opener Richard Greaves dropping anchor for an unbeaten 50 off 46 balls with three sixes and Larry Babb hitting 57 off 24 balls, laced with three sixes and seven fours, also ended on 167 for six in their 20 overs.

But in the Super Over, St Lucy only made five, scored by Babb as both Alex Browne and Greaves were run by Jones without scoring.

Jones then completed a good game, with a six off left-arm spinner Kemar Stanford, who had taken two for 10 in St Philip’s first turn at the crease.

The result meant that St John Crusaders advanced from Zone C by virtue of a better net run rate of 0.579 than Christ Church (-0.933) after both teams ended with six points.

The other team to secure a semi-fianl berth so far is St Michael Merchants, who won all three of their Zone B matches for maximum nine points. (EZS)
