St Lucy and St Michael North East went on goal fests in the National Sports Council/Youth Development Programme Community Under-17 Football Tournament on Thursday.
The boys from St Lucy blanked St James South 14-0 in a North zone match at Speighstown, with Javere Cumberbatch leading the way with a hat-trick. CARIFTA Games’ shot-putter Enrico Babb showcased his soccer skills with a brace, while Shaquan Haynes also had a double strike.
Nikolai Jackman, Marcus Lovell, Quairo Gill, Deshawn Toppin, Nicholas Broome, Josiah Griffith and Tre Jordan were also on target for St Lucy.
Over at Friendship, St Michael North East thrashed St Michael Central 14-1 with Codeve Sobers booting home five goals in the 8th, 16th, 32nd, 43rd and 53rd minutes.
Terry Rollock supported with a beaver-trick as he found the nets in the 22nd, 23rd, 38th and 52nd minutes, while Tyriq Daniel got a brace in the 29th and 35th minutes. Rason Sealy (27th), Shaquille Prescod (41st) and Jakobe Dowell (54th) completed the scoring in the one-sided encounter. Oshea Gibson (56th) got St Michael Central’s consolation goal.
At the same venue, St Michael West and St Michael North played to a 1-1 draw, while defending champions St Michael North West beat St Michael West Central 2-1.
Rashane Thompson scored both goals for St Michael North West in the first and 52nd minutes while Josiah Hinds found the nets for St Michael West Central.
In the other two matches at Speightstown, Azari Collymore scored two goals in the 29th and 47th minutes as St Peter defeated St James Central 3-0, while St Andrew and St James North played to a goalless draw.
There weren’t many goals at Ellerton with Christ Church West defeating Christ Church West 2-0, courtesy strikes by Tyriq Holder and Dimitri Archer in the eighth and 13th minutes, respectively.
Christ Church East Central and former champions St George South battled to a 1-1 draw. Treasure Griffith equalised for Christ Church East Central in the 56th minute after Shaquan Clarke had given St George South the lead in the 16th minute. (EZS)
