Barbados’ netball has received a big boost with veteran Latonia Blackman stealing the spotlight at the Barbados Olympic Association’s (BOA) 2017 awards ceremony on Wednesday night at Hilton Barbados Resort.
The versatile Blackman won two major awards when she was named Senior Female Athlete of the Year in addition to taking home the prestigious President’s Award.
“I am very happy; words can’t express how I feel right now,” said the 35-year-old Blackman, who shed a few tears after she was named by new BOA president, Sandra Osborne as her choice.
President of the Barbados Netball Association (BNA) Nisha Craigwell told WEEKENDSPORT that Blackman’s award is a fitting climax to a successful year for netball.
“I’m on Cloud Nine. I am ecstatic. It will give [netball] a boost. We have had an excellent year. It has been one of our best years, so this is icing on the cake to end 2017,” she said. (EZS)
