HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE assembled on the grounds of the Barbados Defence Force, St Ann’s Fort, recently for a Christmas cocktail reception hosted by Opposition Leader Mia Mottley.

The annual event, held to celebrate the Yuletide season, saw a number of party stalwarts and political hopefuls mingling among the crowd.

In her address, the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) leader said it was not a time for speeches, but to bring the BLP family together, reflect on the birth of Jesus and give thanks.

However, she did not lose sight of the party’s goal, saying: “There is a mission ahead of us that is greater than any one of us. There is a mission ahead of us that requires us to bring the land we love back to safety.

“It cannot be done by 30 candidates alone as I have told you over and over and over, but it requires all of us moving in one direction, regardless of whether you are member, supporter, observer or don’t like us at all. We must work together as one people, as one nation, because this land that we love dearly needs us now more than ever,” she added.

During the evening, the crowd was kept well entertained by a number of entertainers, including Edwin, Paula Hinds, Joshua Sydney, TC and the band Loud. Most of the popular food of the season was also on offer. (RL)
