The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has extended both the flash-flood and severe thunderstorm warnings for the island until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, October 7.

These warnings come as unstable weather conditions continue to bring heavy rainfall and lightning, posing significant risks to residents and visitors alike.

The extended flash-flood warning highlights the ongoing risk of rapid flooding, particularly in northern and central districts. Earlier today, these areas experienced rainfall of 3 to 4 inches (75 to 100 mm), with an additional 2 to 4 inches (50 to 100 mm) expected overnight.

The flash flooding could result in water pooling on roads, fields, and low-lying coastal areas, making some routes impassable.

The BMS advises that conditions could quickly escalate, with delays on traffic routes and potential closures in minor towns.

The severe thunderstorm warning has also been extended, with the BMS noting an increased likelihood of significant lightning activity.

These thunderstorms are expected to persist across Barbados, presenting a danger of power outages should lightning strikes affect utility infrastructure.

The BMS warns that these strikes can be life-threatening and urges the public to take necessary precautions.

Residents are advised to stay informed by following BMS updates on social media and through local news channels (BMS)
