Hometown player Sydney “Sinbad” Trotman is the second winner of the annual George Linton Memorial 13-Card Tonk Competition.
Trotman emerged champion by winning the decisive six in the final at the Goalkeeper’s Bar, Licorish Village, St Michael, against Anderson “Bandy” Steele, who won two games, and Wendy Alleyne, who ended in the love.
Playing on separate tables, Steele, Alleyne and Trotman had earlier won their semi-final encounters.
The other semi-finalists were Cameron Bowen, Joel “China” Griffith, Cyntomia Lynch, Oliver Bruce, Sherwin “Pilly” Gittens and Rodney Inniss.
Former Minister of Sport Rudolph “Cappy” Greenidge, well known cricket commentator Frank Gill and former Barbados footballers Robert “Bolt” Lashley and Cecil “Goofy” White, former St Catherine’s scorer and president Norville Brathwaite, popular dominoes slammer Harvey Jones and Harry Blades were eliminated in the second round.
The tournament was played in memory of Linton, the late Barbados cricketer and coach who was an avid card player. It was coordinated by White, Gill, Adrian “Lew” Bynoe and Blades, who worked with Linton at the National Sports Council.
