Government’s bid to access international funding to revise Barbados’ cultural policy has failed.

Investigations revealed the Ministry of Culture had applied to the International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFDC) for about US$100 000 to update the national cultural policy between March next year and December, 2019.

However, the fund administered by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) raised a number of concerns about how the money would be used. It has therefore notified the Freundel Stuart Administration that it will not get one cent of the financing it applied for.

Documents seen by the Sunday Sun showed that the IFDC’s administrators balked at the idea that US$94 375 of the funds applied for would be paid to five consultants (each receiving US$862.50 per day), with the remainder for “services and other costs”. (SC)
