For a first-time burglar, Romel Rico Cheltenham was fearless and relentless.

So bold was he that he stole a tablet from right under its sleeping owner’s nose.

When Cheltenham, 33, of Stadium Road, Bush Hall, St Michael, appeared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday, he admitted to committing three acts of burglary.

He pleaded guilty to entering the home of Otis Bovell on November 9 and stealing a television worth $2 800, a $500 cellphone, a Playstation valued at $600 and $2 400 in cash.

The labourer also pleaded guilty to entering the home of Gracie Newsam-Cadogan on November 15 and stealing a $350 tablet and $600 cellphone.

On that occasion, Cheltenham broke into the complainant’s house while she was asleep in her bedroom. Even after he realised she was at home, he still proceeded to steal the tablet, which Newsam-Cadogan had left to charge before going to sleep.

Cheltenham also admitted entering the building known as Best, Skeete & Company Chartered Accountants and stealing two laptop computers worth $2 980, and two bottles of wine.

He also pleaded guilty to damaging a drink machine belonging to Vending Plus Inc on November 16.

He was, however, not required to plead to the indictable charge of escaping from the District “A” Police Station on November 16.

Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant remanded Cheltenham until December 18 for sentencing, when he will also return to court for the indictable charge. (RB)
