A NEW school boy and school girl will be crowned at the National Sports Council’s Mr School Boy Bodybuilding and Miss School Girl Body Fitness Championships, tomorrow.
And 100 competitors from36 schools are expected to take the stage at the event set to begin at 6 p.m. at the Lester Vaughan School.
Seven teenagers will compete for the Mr School Boy title with last year’s second-placed contestant Remar Butcher returning as the favourite in the absence of former winner Laslo Byron.
Strong challenges
Butcher is expected to encounter some strong challenges from last year’s second runner-up Deandre Bascombe of St Leonards, Samuel Jackman Prescod’s Adrian Dyall and Anthony Bourne of The Government Industrial School.
With last year’s winner Elsie Mofford moving on as well as the second and third-place competitors, the top three positions will be up for grabs.
Zalika Greaves, who was sixth last year, will now be the one to watch as well as Rhea Lewis of the Barbados Community College,who also graced the stage in 2016.
None of last year’s 6-8 Tiny Tots girls will be returning for the fitness category but in the 6-8 girls bodybuilding competition, former third-place contestant Tiana Murray of Bay Primary will be back.
Sachin Greenidge-Holford will be the only boy reappearing in the boys 6-8 bodybuilding division.
A new fitness champion will emerge in the 9-11 category withno entries from last year’s participants.
However, in the girls body building segment, third-place contestant Shania Callender of George Lamming will be backon stage.
In the 9-11 boys bodybuilding division, 2016 winnerKemani Maynard, who nowattends Lester Vaughan schoolwill be back to defend his title.
He will have to face last year’s third-place contestant Zarico Redman-Bellamy, who will be hoping to take the top spot.
Withdrawals
With three competitors withdrawing, there are only two entrants for the girls 12-15 category.
Four girls will take part in the bodybuilding category. Reigning queen Christina Maynard of Ellerslie is hoping to be crowned again but will have to hold offLester Vaughan’s Rowland Kirton-Browne, who placed second last year.
Asa Innis of Alexandra is eagerto make his mark as he takes on title holder Trayvean Harvey of Alleyne as well as Danae Elcock and Jayde Germain of St Leonard’s Boys and the Government Industrial School, respectively. (RG)Â
