Charlie sails to the top

CHARLIE GLOUMEAU and his crew captured the top prize in the J24 Championships when the Barbados Yacht Club wrapped up the 2017 sailing season with the sailing awards on Friday night.

With just one point separating Gloumeau and Jim Tindale and his crew on College Funds, they won sailing Bunga Bunga during the nine-regatta series between January and June. Third place in the J24 series went to Robert Lovey and his crew.

Among those regattas in the series, Gloumeau won the Taylor’s Centre J24 while Neil Burke and his crew placed second, sailing Impulse and third was Tindale and his crew on College Funds.

Gloumeau also out- sailed Burke to win the Stansfeld Scott J24 while Povey and his crew came in third on Hawkeye.

Tindale, who was accompanied by Joshua Proverbs, won the Massy Stores Dinghy Series GP 14 Class and also won the GP14 Class of the Clayton’s Kick Dinghy Series, alongside Hugh Blades and Alec Drayton.

Tindale also placed third behind Brude Robinson and Geoffrey Evelyn, who placed first and second respectively in Keelboat Class of the Taylor’s Cycle Centre Offshore Regatta.

In both the Clayton’s Kick Dinghy Series and Massy Stores Dinghy Series, Kyle Spenard won the Laser Radial Classes.

Melissa Boland took the Topper Topaz Class in the Taylor’s Cycle Centre Offshore Regatta while Hendrick and Evan van Anrooy and Ellie Lawrence were second.

Boland went on to place second in the Massy Stores Dinghy Series 4.7 class after Drew Gill finished first and Michael Skinner came third. (RG)
